A&W Root Beer®: A&W Root Beer is the leading soft drink in A&W restaurants, capturing on average, 70% of soft drink sales. By comparison, root beer accounts for less than 10% of soft drink sales in competing chains. Still served in a frosted glass mug in our freestanding restaurants, both the product and its presentation provide a significant point of difference for A&W. A&W is also the leading brand of root beer distributed in cans and bottles in Canada, providing powerful awareness and sampling of A&W’s most distinctive product.

The Burger Family®: The Teen Burger is A&W’s number one selling hamburger, and is far and way the best selling hamburger on the A&W menu. Backing up the Teen Burger is the balance of the Burger Family, which was re-introduced to the menu in 2000 after a 15 year hiatus. The return of the Mama, Papa, Baby and Grandpa burgers, packaged in their traditional foil bags, captured the imagination of Baby Boomers across Canada -- contributing to superb sales results and providing A&W with the strongest line-up of branded burger products in the industry.

Chubby Chicken®: In 2001, we undertook the largest new product launch in A&W history with the return of Chubby Chicken. Featuring three products: Double Seasoned Chubby Chicken pieces, Chubby Chicken Strips and a new Chubby Chicken Burger, the launch of Chubby Chicken is a major new business thrust for A&W. Chubby Chicken was a well known product for A&W in the 1960's, but was removed from the menu when A&W expanded rapidly into small shopping centre food court operations during the 1980's. During the first year of the launch, A&W achieved total sales in this new business of $60 million, 40% ahead of projections. With only one major competitor in the fried chicken market segment in Canada, this new business has quickly become a significant contributor to our system sales.

Onion Rings: A&W’s fresh handmade onion rings round out our menu and provide another important point of differentiation for A&W. Each day, fresh onions are sliced, hand battered and breaded, before being cooked to perfection. A&W is the only quick service restaurant chain that undertakes this quality preparation procedure in each individual restaurant.





Breakfast: A&W's breakfast offering is one of the strongest you'll find anywhere in the quick service restaurant industry. Not only do we offer customers the convenience of a hand-held breakfast sandwich called the Bacon N' Egger, we also serve real bacon and real eggs....just the way you like them. Perennial favorites such as French Toast and hash browns round out this outstanding menu.
And the centerpiece of any great breakfast offering is a great cup of coffee. Last September, A&W introduced the Allen & Wright Classic Roast program (named, by the way, after the founders of A&W). This medium roast coffee made of 100% Arabica beans, teamed up with 18% cream for a richer, fresher taste and served in our freestanding restaurants in a ceramic mug, has produced, hands down, the best cup of coffee you'll find anywhere in our segment of the industry.

Root Beer Floats: The A&W Root Beer Float is back ! For the first time in 16 years, A&W customers can enjoy an old favorite which has become a Canadian classic.....a delicious float made with our famous A&W Root Beer and Real Dairy Ice Cream, a rich new ice cream from Nestlé, and served in our trademark A&W Frosty Mug.
